Undermedvetenheten – Undermedvetenheten (LP)
Label: Kit Records
Undermedvetenheten is a term that refers to an artistic residency, a Live Action Role-Play (LARP), and an LP. What began as an artistic residency between artist Francis Patrick Brady and musician John B McKenna exploring sound experimentation bred an accompanying soundtrack created by Richard Greenan, Galina Juritz, and Chris Catlin. This soundtrack would in turn become the foundations for a LARP created in collaboration with the games company Frand. Released on Greenan’s label Kit Records the LP acts as an ambient backdrop to the LARP in which players play humans stranded aboard an interstellar vessel hurtling hopelessly toward annihilation. The soundtrack is therefore a sonic representation of timelessness into which players can lose themselves. Consisting predominately of strange polyrhythmic Aphex-esque synths the few recognisable sounds that inhabit the album are appropriately ambiguous, for instance a donkey braying, or is it a bird? Undermedvetenheten stands alone as an incredible work of ambient music and can be experienced with or without the accompanying LARP, its transportive effect is independent and its synths alone can leave the listener lost in space.
